Edwin M. Gardner
Montana Secretary of State in 1892

The funeral of Edward W. Gardner (1842-24 June 1910), one of Bozeman’s old-time residents and a prominent and respected man, who died yesterday evening, will be held this afternoon at the family residence in Central Avenue.  The service will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ross of the Presbyterian Church, and the Odd Fellows, of which lodge Mr. Gardner had been a prominent member, will hold some simple exercises at the grave.  The pallbearers will be the stepchildren and sons-in-law as follows:  Professor Fisher, Dr. Gardiner, Clifford Waite, George Wilson, and Charles and Joseph Baker.  The son, Archibald Gardner, who is a New York dentist, will be unable to attend the funeral.
Edward Gardner came to Bozeman in 1879 and was 68 years of age when he died as the result of a long siege of kidney trouble.  He had accumulated a comfortable fortune and was one of the prominent real-estate men of eastern Montana.  He was not only highly respected but was a citizen who was genuinely beloved by everybody.
     Mrs. Gardner died last January.
