Ira Hersey

Ira Greenlief  Hersey was born in Hodgdon, Maine on 3 March 1958; he died in Washington, DC on 6 May 1943.
     Hersey graduated from Ricker institute and later became a lawyer.
     His first choice in politics was the Prohibition Party, and he was our candidate for governor of Maine in 1886.  Subsequently, he switched his allegiance to the Republican Party and under that banner was elected to the Maine house, the Maine senate, and ultimately to the federal House of Representatives.  Toward the end of his life, he served as a judge in Aroostock County.
