W.H. Gilstrap

W.H. Gilstrap was born in Effingham County, Illinois in 1849.  He attended public schools in Effingham and McLean counties.  In 1877, he opened an art studio in Bloomington, where he produced many rural landscapes and portraits of leading citizens.  “Later, his paintings of Colorado scenery included mountains and streams in bold, rugged beauty.
     “As a member and assistant secretary of the Washington State Historical Society, he has been indefatigable in creating and maintaining an interest in historical work.”
