Augustus C. Kinney

Augustus Crouch Kinney was born at Muscatine, Iowa on 26 July 1845.  Two years later, his family followed the Oregon Trail to the Chehalem Valley (now part of Yamhill County).  His father developed an orchard there; he later was a territorial legislator and a member of the Oregon Constitutional Convention.  Augustus died, in Oakland, California, on 24 March 1908 and is buried in Salem, Oregon.
He attended Pacific University, McMinnville (now Linfield) College, Willamette University College of Medicine, and Bellevue Hospital Medical College (now part of the New York University School of Medicine).  Except for two years in California, he practiced medicine in Oregon, mostly in Astoria.  He became a widely respected authority on the treatment of tuberculosis.
Kinney also had an interest in zoology.
