Andrew Jackson Houston

Andrew Houston, son of the first President of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston, was born on 21 June 1854 in Independence, Texas.  He was a lawyer.  He attended several institutions of higher learning, among them Baylor University, Old Salade College, and the United States Military Academy.
     He attained the rank of Colonel in the Texas National Guard and was a United States Marshall.  After holding several law-related jobs, he served as Superintendent of San Jacinto Battlefield State Park.
     Houston died in Baltimore, Maryland on 26 June 1941, two months after having been appointed to fill a Democratic vacancy in the U.S. Senate.
